One volume containing ship's logs from the ship BROTHERS, Thomas Folger, master, sailing out of London to South America, 1802-1803, with entries on weather, sailing conditions, and whaling activities; and from the ship RUSSELL, Joseph Allen, master, sailing from Payta (New Caledonia) to New Bedford, with entries on weather and sailing conditions, 1807.

Dr. Joseph P. Allen was born June 27, 1937 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He earned his BA in Physics and Mathematics from DePauw University (1959) and an MS and PhD in physics from Yale University (1961, 1965). A winner of a Fulbright Scholarship to Germany (1959), Allen began his career as a research associate in the Nuclear Physics Laboratory at the University of Washington.
